It would be an understatement to say British director David Yates has a good working relationship with Warner Bros. Having directed the last four“Harry Potter” movies and with that slightly lucrative franchise now at an end, the studio is now eager to offer their arguably most successful director his choice of their next big project. While he contemplates taking on a trilogy of Stephen King’s “The Stand” and twisted fairy tale“Fables”, the project the closest to actually getting made is called“Cicero”, an Al Capone origin tale that Tom Hardy is attached to star in.
As Vulture reports, production may be so imminent that the studio and Yates already discussing working out scheduling for Hardy, who is already attached to star in “Mad Max: Fury Road” next spring. The plan is to hopefully shoot “Cicero” before Hardy has to report for duty on “Fury Road” down under. When Yates comes to town next week, the studio and director will also be discussing the possibility of expanding “Cicero” into more than one film, with the first focusing only on Capone’s rise to power as the most notorious gangster of all time. His reign and subsequent downfall could then potentially be told in one or two sequels.
Hardy, highly sought after for every big project ever since his breakout role as Eames in Christopher Nolan’s 2010 summer blockbuster and awards favorite “Inception”, is currently filming the villain role of Bane for Nolan’s final “Batman” installment, “The Dark Knight Rises”. He has completed work on Prohibition era drama “The Wettest County in the World” opposite Shia LaBeouf, romantic action/comedy “This Means War” opposite Reese Witherspoon and spy thriller “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” with Gary Oldman and Colin Firth. He’ll next be seen in MMA fighting/family drama “Warrior” opposite Joel Edgerton, opening on September 9th.
